From static videos to tailored interactive training.

The SABIC site in Bergen op Zoom houses eight factories. SABIC is responsible for controlling who may enter—and most importantly—whether it happens safely. Every day, for drivers, contractors, and visitors.

Solutions.

  • Custom Made Training

Until recently, SABIC Bergen op Zoom used three separate safety videos: one general gate training and two for drivers. These videos were typically watched on a fixed computer at the gate or beforehand via a link. However, they were long, primarily one-way broadcasts, and offered little room for interaction or verification. As a result, many users either didn’t watch them in full or struggled to absorb the information.

Time for something new.

Together with SABIC, we identified that the existing method didn’t meet the needs of the different user groups. We developed two custom trainings, tailored to the specific situations of drivers and contractors:

  • Gate training: available beforehand, but also accessible at the gate.
  • Driver training: preferably completed at the gate, but also accessible remotely when needed. Designed with an international audience in mind, with a strong focus on visual communication.

With input from various departments—ranging from safety to operations—we mapped out the essential content. The result: clear, visual, and interactive trainings closely aligned with real-life situations. Trainings that don’t just push information, but actively engage users, with opportunities to directly test their knowledge.

The results.

The new trainings are not only visual but also interactive, actively engaging users. They are shorter, clearer, and include built-in knowledge checks. This leads to a more effective learning experience and better information retention.

Looking ahead.

SABIC Bergen op Zoom is working on a new access control system, which will be integrated with the Safeday platform. This means trainings can soon be sent automatically to the right person, and it will be immediately clear whether the training has been completed and passed—before the visitor even arrives at the gate.
