How Safeday helped Chemelot take safety and access to the next level.

Chemelot is one of Europe's largest chemical sites — with thousands of people moving across the grounds every day. Employees, contractors, drivers, visitors. Each day, with potential risks. But they all have one thing in common: they're entering a site where safety isn't a formality — it's a requirement.

That awareness often only began at the gate.

Instructions were barely interactive, and information was often shared at the last minute. The standard process? An outdated safety video, a paper questionnaire, and sometimes a quick verbal explanation. The result: congestion at the gate.

Especially during Turnarounds — when hundreds or even thousands of extra people arrive at once — this became unsustainable. Safety briefings in crowded cabins, with interpreters whispering instructions ear to ear. Chemelot knew it needed a better, safer, and more efficient approach. Together, we reimagined what that could look like.

Let the numbers speak for themselves.

Time for a smarter approach.

Together with Chemelot, we completely redesigned the training experience. No more last-minute sessions — instead, trainings that can be completed in advance, at home or on the go, at your own pace, and in your own language.

We developed interactive, visually engaging trainings tailored to specific roles (such as contractors and drivers), thoroughly tested with the target audience to ensure clarity. No overwhelming rulebooks — just the essentials to work safely.

This was also a huge leap forward for Turnarounds. Instead of last-minute instructions in a site cabin, temporary workers now receive clear digital trainings — available in multiple languages, with immediate feedback on their knowledge. No more bottlenecks at the gate, no more hunting for interpreters or sorting piles of paperwork. Security staff and TA managers now enjoy more clarity and peace of mind, focusing on their core tasks.

“There hasn't been a single traffic jam at our busiest gate since we digitized our access training.”

From training to access.

Digital training is a big step — but there's more to come. Together with Chemelot, we're building a completely new access management system that connects training directly to site entry.

A contractor only gains access once their training is completed and approved. Visitors can be pre-registered. Access cards can be centrally managed, verified, and renewed. All in one clear system — for Chemelot and the companies on-site.
